The SEC Physics syllabus is divided into the following themes:
Theme 1 – On the move – (Work, power, energy, energy sources, motion, momentum and collisions)
Theme 2 – Balancing forces – (Types of forces, centre of gravity, Moments, Hooke’s law, Pressure)
Theme 3 – The Nature of Waves – (Waves and Optics)
Theme 4 – Staying Cool – (Density and Heat)
Theme 5 – Electricity in the Home – (Electricity)
Theme 6 – Magnets and Motors – (Magnetism and Electromagnetism)
Theme 7 – Radiation and its uses – (Radioactivity)
Theme 8 – The Earth and the Universe
Themes for Form 3:
- Balancing Forces (theme 2)
- Staying Cool (theme 4)
- The Earth and the Universe (theme 8 )
- On the Move (part 1) (theme 1)
Themes for Form 4:
- The Nature of Waves (theme 3)
- On the Move (part 2) (theme 1)
- Electricity in the home (part 1) (theme 5)
Themes for Form 5:
- Electricity (part 2) (theme 5 )
- Magnets and Motors (theme 6)
- Radiation and its uses (theme 7)
At the end of form 5 students need to present 15 experiments of which 2 experiments are chosen from each theme (1-6).
